A big three-floored building is located at the left side of Dnepr, near the vallum. This is Smolensk Hosiery Factory, with history of already many decades, one of the oldest enterprises in the industry.

The factory construction started in 1952 and along with the construction, before the commissioning of the whole factory, plans of production organization and personnel training were being developed. As soon as first binding and molding units have been installed, were started such process as personnel recruitment and training and the production process. Along with the first production the factory construction was spinning up: besides the factory building itself 3 dwelling houses for workers and the pioneer camp were been built. Provided the unemployment problem of the time, the big number of workplaces has improved life of very many families.   All workers involved in the factory construction at the same time were completing training in selected or professional specialty. Since before the end of construction the factory personnel was participating in various competitions in order to achieve high labor efficiency, economize of raw material and improve the production quality, as well as broadly exchanged experience with other enterprises.

In 1953 the main building of the factory was finished, and the enterprise became famous all over the Soviet Union by its constructions and production organization rates and was the first large scale enterprise, which has been built in Smolensk, ruined by war years.In 1964 a group of foreigners — members of  British – Soviet Friendship Society of the city of Lester has visited the factory. They learned at first hand the big progress, achieved by our country after the war, and understood that our people are aiming to live in peace and friendship with peoples of other countries.
From the very beginning Smolensk Hosiery Factory was being headily building, developing and gathering a tight-knit and professional community. Nowadays things remain the same: - we hunger for innovations
